AudioQuest DragonFly Cobalt
The DragonFly Cobalt is the new DAC, this flagship from AudioQuest from the DragonFly series does what music lovers around the world have come to expect from the multi-award winning DragonFly family: take a naturally beautiful, seductive sound and get rid of it and don't miss it were noticeable until the Cobalt removed them.
How is this possible? Just like the much-praised DragonFly Red, the Cobalt also has a robust 2.1-volt output for effortless control of almost any headphone and uses a bit-perfect digital volume control with an excellent signal-to-noise ratio. It also ensures seamless compatibility with Apple and Android devices, and is the exceptionally competent and affordable MQA display.
The introduction of the DragonFly Cobalt will set a new precedent. This is made possible by several important upgrades namely:
- New, more advanced ESS ES9038Q2M DAC chip with a minimum phase slow roll-off filter for more natural sound.
- The superior PIC32MX274 microprocessor from Microchip draws even less power and increases processing speed by 33%.
- Improved filtering of the power supply that specifically increases immunity to WiFi, Bluetooth and cellular noise.
- Including a matching DtagonTail USB-C to Female USB adapter. All DragonTails use AQ's Carbon-level USB cable technology.
Of course Cobalt uses Gordon's Rankin's much-discussed and unique StreamLength® asynchronous USB transfer code. Also, with the help of Gordon's monoClock® technology, an ultra-low-jitter clock is generated from the ESS ES9038Q2M DAC chip that controls all ESS functions and microcontrollers. This superior clock makes it possible for the DragonFly Cobalt to offer higher resolution and clarity than DACs with multiple clocks.
All this quality is packed in a sleek new housing that measures only 57.5mm x 18.6mm x 11.9mm, making the newest DragonFly not only 10% smaller but also a bit more pocket-friendly.
Tip: add a JitterBug for even better performance!
