THE RED GARLAND QUINTET - ALL MORNIN' LONG
TITLE
1. All Mornin' Long
2. They Can't Take That Away From Me
3. Our Delight
On November 15, 1957, a rarely performing quintet led by pianist Red Garland gathered in the studio to record material for two LPs. The first side of the production is dedicated to the impressive 20-minute title track "All Mornin' Long," as well as the relaxed numbers "They Can't Take that Away from Me" and "Our Delight."
The lineup was certainly top-notch. Red Garland and saxophonist John Coltrane knew each other from the Miles Davis Quintet. Drummer Arthur Taylor was formerly part of the Red Garland Trio, and trumpeter Donald Byrd had played with all of them before. So, the only one left to mention is bassist George Joyner to complete the quintet.
The analog mono recordings were captured on tape by the not-yet-legendary Rudy van Gelder.
The hybrid mono SACD is released in a mini-LP cover as part of a series of 50 reissues from the legendary Prestige label. There are plans for 25 mono and stereo recordings. The mastering was done by Kevin Gray at his Cohearent Audio Studios.
