Subtle shifts in atmosphere, tone and melody fill the space, a wide soundstage and sweeping dynamics allow every note and melodic turn to shine. Charlie Rouse on tenor saxophone, Ben Riley on drums and Larry Gales on bass brilliantly support Monk's idiosyncratic detours such as the solo on 'Locomotive' or 'Japanese Folk Song'. A self-confident jazz classic that is great fun!
